i really believe this is the way jesus loves us.

bathroom conversations.

public art is one of my favorite things. i love places and art that create space for people to engage in conversation. the bathroom at epoch coffee in austin is a great place to hang out and read. why people feel such freedom to pour their hearts and minds out in a bathroom i'll never know. anonymity i think: to only be known by ones ideas.

the current topic of conversation? hell. feel free to add -- although this is slightly less anonymous than a bathroom stall.

I want to be a good woman
And I want for you to be a good man
And this is why I am leavin'
And this is why I can't see you no more

I don't want to be a bad woman
I can't stand to see you be a bad man
I will miss your heart so tender
And I will love this love forever

This is why I am leavin'
And this is why I can't see you no more
And this is why I am lyin'
When I say I don't love you no more

Cause I want to be a good woman
And I want you to be a good man

a story worth retelling

05 October 2009

and even while he was still a long way off, the father ran out to meet his son.

upon their meeting, he threw his arms around the boy who was dirty and starving and shaking in shame. he lifted his chin with his hand and, looking into his eyes, he said, 'my son. i've wept every day you've been gone. i haven't stopped looking over the fence or listening for your footsteps on the path. and now you're here, you've returned. you are home.'
the boy could only cry. for, you see, he had wished his father dead, taken his inheritance and squandered every last bit. he returned home only to throw himself at his father's feet and beg to be treated as a servant.
but the father placed a robe on his shoulders, sandals on his feet and a ring on his finger. calling to his servants he said, 'prepare a feast! for my son has come home to stay!'

A Promise

I will build you up again
and you will be rebuilt, O Virgin Israel.
Again you will take up your tambourines
and go out to dance with the joyful.

we are but small hands in a land of boulders to be moved

with shoulders and heaving over rough terrain.

waiting on a new thing.
